Hi Everyone!
Lucky Dog is excited to host a R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) Seminar to offer information and training to bring this fun program to the lakes area. We are looking for people who would be interested in assisting with getting the program into local libraries and schools in the lakes area or to get certified with your pet to participate in the program.  Please contact me with any questions or to register!

Thank you in advance for your interest and help!
Mary Holsen

.R.E.A.D.® Workshop now available!

The mission of the R.E.A.D. program is to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of registered therapy
teams as literacy mentors. The R.E.A.D. website thoroughly describes all the reasons for why this is such an exciting and heartwarming program. http://www.therapyanimals.org/read/index.php Be sure to check out the brochure that summarizes the key points. http://www.therapyanimals.org/read/READ-brochure.pdf

And, while the program name refers to dogs, most registered therapy animals can participate and help improve children’s reading skills.

Rescheduled - please check back for upcoming training session at Lucky Dog Boarding & Training Center in Detroit Lakes.http://www.luckydogdl.com/contact.htm

In the training session you will learn:

  • How to conduct a reading session
  • How therapy teams can start programs in schools, libraries, and other alternative settings
  • How to document students’ reading progress
  • How to convince decision makers in your community that R.E.A.D.works
  • How to make reading fun with different tools and techniques to implement a R.E.A.D. program
  • How to become a R.E.A.D. member
This is a fast paced, information packed class for humans only. The emphasis is on what you need to know for a successful reading program; it is not a hands-on class of teaching your animal specific tasks.

The cost for the session will be $75. This includes the training manual.

The students do not need to be registered as a therapy team at the time of the R.E.A.D. class, but they will need to be registered when they apply for R.E.A.D. membership. This class is also appropriate for reading specialists that are looking to establish a reading program and want to understand more about how the program works.

Thank you! I look forward to seeing you at the workshop. Just think about the impact we can make with children by connecting with them through our animals in this wonderful program!
